Based on the popular video game series, the newest film from director Jared Hess is a fun movie for longtime fans of “Minecraft” and children of all ages. The film plays out as a predictable story with tropes you can see coming a mile away, but what makes the film work are the main characters, the humor, and its great message about creativity. Jack Black delivers an entertaining performance as Steve, the main character of the “Minecraft” game. The supporting cast, which consists of Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Sebastian Hansen, and Danielle Brooks, all deliver pretty good performances in the film. “A Minecraft Movie” may not be for people who didn’t play the video game (myself included). Still, the film is a fun movie that will satisfy fans and kids thanks to its hilarious moments, excellent message about creativity, and great performances by its lead actors.
