Michael Bay didn’t direct this installment in the “Bad Boys” trilogy, and that is one hundred percent a great sign. Directing duo Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah took over the buddy cop series by giving it a brand new style, feel, and realistic elements not seen in an action franchise since 2011’s “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.” Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reprise their roles of Detective Mike Lowrey and Detective Marcus Burnett, respectively. Smith and Lawrence give fantastic performances, and their chemistry is off the hook. Joe Pantoliano also returns from the last two films as the police captain and is really good as well. There are also some great new additions to the Bad Boys cast, including Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, and Paola Núñez. “Bad Boys For Life” was worth the seventeen-year wait, and a lot is thanks to the change in direction, impressive action scenes, and fantastic performances from Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Like how “Mission Impossible” got its tone shifted amazingly, “Bad Boys” has the potential to follow that franchise in doing the same thing with positive results, and that ain’t bad for a movie that came out in January.
