The Ghostbusters gang is back to battle another evil ghost who’s bent on taking over the world in a sequel that feels like an extended episode of the animated series “The Real Ghostbusters” but knows how to have fun. Gil Kenan took over the real of director of this installment following the passing of Ivan Reitman in 2022 and Jason Reitman currently working on the upcoming film “SNL 1975,” while he does a decent job as the director of this film, you do feel like the charm that both Reitman’s brought for the past 40 years is missing. The pacing is slow, and there are too many storylines to balance, so it feels like four movies instead of one. The things that do work in this movie are the fantastic visual effects and the return of many characters from the previous film giving great performances in the movie, which includes Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Celeste O’Connor. Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, and Emily Alyn Lind deliver great performances as new characters in this latest installment. The film also brings back the legacy characters that we know very well, and they once again deliver fantastic performances, which include Bill Murray as Peter Venkman, Dan Aykroyd as Ray Stantz, Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore, Annie Potts as Janine Melnitz, and William Atherton as Walter Peck. “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” may not be as good as “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” but there’s still plenty of stuff to keep you entertained for 2 hours and not have to think about anything else.
