The fourth film in the rebooted "Planet of the Apes" series takes this new story 300 years after the passing of Caesar, the ruler of the ape's empire and the main focus of the previous trilogy. Director Wes Ball takes over for Matt Reeves, who directed the last two films in the series, and with the pressure put on him to continue the run that started back in 2011, he achieves that with great success. The story is fantastic, the cinematography looks impressive, and the visual effects to create the apes are amazing. It should be worth mentioning that this is also the first film in the rebooted series that doesn't have actor and CGI master Andy Serkis involved in anyway, and it feels like a change of the guards within the franchise. Owen Teague delivers an excellent performance as the main character in this new chapter in the Apes franchise. Freya Allan delivers an excellent performance as the main human character and has great chemistry with Owen Teague. The film's supporting cast delivers great performances, including Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, and William H. Macy. "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" may not be as good as the Caesar trilogy. However, it is still an excellent movie, and it is a great first chapter in this new story of "Planet of the Apes," thanks to Wes Ball's incredible direction, fantastic visual effects, and excellent performances from its ensemble cast.
