Last year, I got to read the screenplay for this movie at the film studio circle of confusion, and as I was reading the script, I saw the film as a drama crossover between "The Big Short" and "The Wolf of Wall Street." After seeing this movie's completion, I see it now as a dramatic crossover between "The Big Short" and "The Wolf of Wall Street" on shrooms. Directed by David Yates, who also made the last four films in the Harry Potter franchise, it was the wrong choice they could make to direct this movie. Yates's direction offers nothing interesting, features slow-paced moments, and an editing style that feels like you took one of the drugs featured in this movie. Emily Blunt is pretty good in this movie and does the best she can do with the material given to her. "Pain Hustlers" could have been a fun film about corporate scheming in the pharmaceutical industry, but due to its mismatched direction, it comes off as a generic film that isn't all that special.
