At a time when we are leaving a Hollywood strike where one of the reasons for the strike was the usage of artificial intelligence, director Gareth Edwards returns from a seven-year hiatus to give us a fascinating look into what the world would look like in the future with technology this advanced. Gareth Edwards blends classic science fiction and Japanese anime to create a fantastic film featuring incredible cinematography, visual effects, tense action scenes, and a remarkable story about a man caring for a young girl who is the key to saving the world from AI. Since his breakthrough with 2018’s “BlacKkKlansman,” John David Washington has followed in the footsteps of his famous father, Denzel Washington, by building up a great film career of his own, and he continues to keep the Washington legacy going with another fantastic performance. Madeline Yuna Voyles gives an excellent breakthrough performance as the robotic girl that John David Washington must protect and manages to hold her own against Washington. I am excited to see where her career will go from here. The film has a great supporting cast, including Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, and Allison Janney. Thanks to its fantastic visuals and cinematography, excellent direction from Gareth Edwards, and excellent performances by John David Washington and Madeleine Yuna Voyles, “The Creator” is a visual spectacle and has a lot to say about the dangers of AI, which makes the film stronger following the conclusion of the 2023 Writers Strike where people were arguing about Artificial Intelligence taking over people jobs within the entertainment industry.
