The Tragedy of Macbeth: Denzel Washington does Shakespeare and gives a powerful performance

Based on William Shakespeare's "Macbeth," this latest adaptation from famed director Joel Coen is an incredible retelling of the classic play first told back in the 1600s. Known for directing movies alongside his brother Ethan Coen, Joel Coen's first solo directing efforts deserves to be on the list as one of the best films from the Coen Brothers. Thanks to the incredible production design and the outstanding performances by the cast, who managed to bring one of Shakespeare to life that is both raw and powerful. Denzel Washington delivers a powerful performance as Lord Macbeth and commands the screen with an iron fist from start to finish. Also giving great performances in the film include Francis McDormand, Corey Hawkins, Bertie Carvel, Alex Hassell, Harry Melling, and Brendan Gleeson. Even though the entire supporting cast is excellent in the film, the film is ultimately the Denzel Washington show from beginning to end. Thanks to the incredible direction by Joel Coen, the beautiful costumes and set design, and a powerful performance by Denzel Washington, "The Tragedy of Macbeth" gives justice to William Shakespeare's original story while also engaging the audience within its gripping themes and provoked storytelling. The film is another reminder of why Denzel Washington is the most outstanding actor working today because he is not afraid to try new things, and he masters the art of Shakespeare to great success. He will be someone to watch out for this awards season.
