Voyagers: A boring sci-fi version of the classic story Lord of the Files

Neil Burger’s science fiction retelling on the classic story “Lord of the Files” could have been a great idea, but it ultimately comes off as an unofficial sequel to the 2016 bore-fest known as “Passengers.” While the special effects look excellent, the story and locations are all set in a small spaceship, making it impossible to engage with the overall plot. The film contains some terrific actors, including Tye Sheridan, Lily-Rose Depp, Fionn Whitehead, and Colin Farrell. All four actors try their best to act around the material given to them. However, their performances come off as very bland and uninteresting. “Voyagers” could have been an exhilarating updated version of “Lord of the Flies,” but its execution doesn’t provide it much hope to feel engaged. Despite having great visuals and excellent cinematography, the film’s bland acting and misguided direction make me want to stay on earth and find something else to do instead of the dull environment that I had to endure for two hours.
